Odysseo by Cavalia is back at Irvine. It is all about location and the Big White Top is nothing less than spectacular. Once inside there are two food concession stands with your typical popcorn and pretzels for the kids. A Le Cafe stand selling coffee for $3 and mini donuts for $1. Do not worry there is a bar serving draft beer, wine and mini cheese plates. In the middle of it all is the souvenir shop. Plenty of souvenirs for the horse lover! I fell in love with a horse bracelet which I might have to add to my birthday wish list.
Once the boys had each picked a snack we headed for our seats. There are a couple of obstructed seats but every other seat in the house is assured a great view. The show began with a 10 minute high impact performance from tribal dancers, acrobats and horses. This was just a taste of what was to come. I got the sense that Odysseo has a rhythm to it. After a high energy performance of acrobats or tribal drummers follows a slower horsemanship demonstration. The hubby even noted how to the untrained eye these horsemanship performances seem easy. If you pay attention there is so much beauty in the technique the horses are showing.
I spent a good portion of show looking over to see the boys faces, who were just as stunned as me. The acrobatics definitely give you a feel of a Cirque du Soleil caliber performances. Tribal drummers make sure to bring tons of energy and interaction between the audience and performers. Personally Odysseo lived up to all the hype I had read and heard about it. It is truly a theatrical marvel and it being done all under a tent is amazing. Odysseo will be showing at White Big Top till Jan 8th so plenty of dates available to catch it before it ends. Make sure to grab some friends since they offer discounts when you buy 4 or more tickets.
