Segerstrom Center for the Arts is presenting American Ballet Theatre’s premiere of Whipped Cream this week! The show is set in a baker’s wonderland – perfect for my daughter and I because we are avid bakers. In this show, our favorite baked goods will come to live in Whipped Cream. It is exciting to be able to take my daughter to events that showcase the arts. She participated in her schools theater program and is learning about different art forms. As a mom, I hope she will fall in love with the arts and with the gorgeous Segerstrom Center for the Arts in our backyard, we HAVE to take advantage of the shows.
About American Ballet Theatre’s premiere of Whipped Cream
A dollop of delightful whimsy, this thoroughly inventive full length premiere tells the story of a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium. To help him escape from his attending physician, the boy dreams of his triumphant rescue by Princess Praline and her court, replete with Princess Tea Flower, Prince Coffee as well as marching Marzipan, concluding in a festive celebration! As light as meringue, Richard Strauss’ score is the perfect inspiration for this all-new production destined to delight ballet fans of all ages.
Whipped Cream is simply “Whimsical.” When the curtains opened there was an audible “ahh” and “ooh.” The set designs and costumes are right out of a bakers dream. The show is perfect for kids since the music is fun and playful. This playfulness is also portrayed in the choreography and story line. The human characters all have huge heads which goes along with Whipped Cream being from a child’s perspective. There were plenty of giggles and laughs from the audience which consisted of many little girls. A friendly reminder that because this is a ballet, it has no dialogue. This might make it hard for very young children to sit quietly. We really enjoyed how fun and playful Whipped Cream was, and after the show we wanted to overindulge in baked goods.
