What makes a great date night? When I was younger, I used to think dinner and a movie was the ideal first date until I got a little older and realized it wasn’t that easy. I found that dating in my thirties involved getting to know a person by having a meaningful conversation on a first date to get to know each other better. A movie is usually not the best date when you are trying to get to know someone because you can’t talk! If you disagree with me, then let me suggest you go to the movie first and then dinner so you have something to talk about. Or better yet – why not pick up something delicious to eat at Umami Burger and then follow it up with some laughs at the Irvine Improv!
This great idea for date night involves lots of conversation and laughing! Umami Burger located at the Irvine Improv Comedy Club at Irvine Spectrum Center is fabulous for so many reasons. The new Irvine Improv is connected to Umami Burger so that you may enjoy dinner and drinks before or after a comedy shows. Umami Burger is a restaurant that specializes in burgers and appetizers along with a beer and wine and specialized drink list. I was invited to taste their new holiday menu this week with a few fellow media friends and I would like to share with you just a few pieces that were my favorite.
First I tried the Rosemary Chicken with mashed potatoes and it was SO good. The lemon flavor really stood out and made my mouth water for more. Needless to say, I had a few pieces as they came around.
For dessert, I tried the chocolate crème brulee and it was like a mixture of chocolate mousse and cheesecake. It literally melted in my mouth so I had to have two pieces to satisfy my craving.
I enjoyed these tastings with a couple of well drinks which included my favorite, the famous “Cape Cod” which consists of vodka and cranberry juice. You can check out more items on the Irvine Improv menu listed online. One thing that is great about the restaurant is that there is live music on select nights and open mic night as well. The live entertainment on the patio varies daily so you may want to contact the comedy club for specific hours and days.
After my media friends and I enjoyed some dinner bites and drinks, we were then invited to sample a comedy show. The comedy show we saw was called “Comedy Juice” and it showcased a variety of comedians who were on stage for about 15 minutes at a time. Comedy Juice is featured every Tuesday night and tickets will run you $10 each. This is a bargain if you ask me and makes a great date night! A comedy club is really for mature audiences and the age limit for the club is 18 and over. I would highly recommend the Irvine Improv as a place to have a good laugh on a date or with your buddies as it is affordable, nearby and offers great dinner options!
You can purchase Irvine Improv tickets online on their website and print them at home, or you may purchase by phone or in person as well. For very popular comedians, it is guaranteed to sell out so make sure you purchase tickets in advance.
The box office is open Mondays 12-4, Tuesday-Thursday 12-8:30, Fridays 12-10:15, Saturdays 12-9:30 and Sundays 12-7:30.
I can’t wait to tell my significant other about Tuesday night “Comedy Juice” so he can take me. At $10 a ticket, it’s a steal of a deal!

This is not a sponsored post. I was invited as part of the media to try out the new holiday menu at Umami Burger and to attend a comedy show at the Irvine Improv. All thoughts and ideas remain my own.
