My husband and I took our seven year-old to enjoy Universal Studios Hollywood for the first time…EVER! And whoa did it make an impression on him. Every set was brought to life in the smallest of details. We enjoyed all the creativity surrounding the park. The best part of all was all the holiday decor, of course! Christmas lights, wreaths and trees (of all colors) everywhere you turned. We met the Grinch and most of the Who-ville gang along with cute super-sized minions and Gru! It was so much fun, but if you’ve never been it can be a lot to take in so we put together this Universal Studios Hollywood holiday bucket list for you.
Universal Studios Hollywood holiday bucket list
Grinchmas is happening now through January 1st. Don’t forget to catch the Who-liday singers on the Studio Tour. They offer a live performance on the Whoville set full of cheer, singing and dancing…even the Grinch is merry! ‘Tis the season to be jolly!
You can visit the Who-ville singers over at Dr. Seuss Landing. A transformation full of who-liday fun! You will have the opportunity to listen to the carols of the who-ville singers, catch Martha May and the who-dolls’ big holiday revue and have the opportunity to send the Grinch a postcard promising three good deeds, a book will be gifted to a child in need.
We loved that there were plenty of Who characters to snap photos too! They were super silly and fun.
Grinchmas Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was nothing short of AMAZING! It truly is one of the most colorful and fabulous trees I’ve ever seen. It is worth the wait! This is a must-HAVE photo opportunity with the 60-foot “Grinchmas” tree.
The lighting ceremony happens after 5:30 pm every 30 minutes, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t arrive on time you can always wait for the next showing. Best part is that no matter what angle you’re standing at, this tree is bound to impress you. Don’t be pressured to be front and center!
Super Silly Fun Land
This is such an awesome stop for the little ones. It is full of color and amusement. Perfect place for both the parents and the kids to unwind. You can catch minions roasting marshmallows and some ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-nana’s.
You can spot the minions in their Christmas spirit and being mischievous throughout Super Silly Fun Land! Even the cast members joined in the fun.
Our favorite part was the Minion ride, it was super playful! You couldn’t help but laugh and smile the entire time. Also, look at those super-fun yellow wreaths and Christmas trees! And then take a look at Miss Hattie’s Home for Girls, it could not be anymore perfect. It felt like it came straight out of Despicable Me.
CityWalk at Universal Studios Hollywood
CityWalk had lots of cheer going on too! Everywhere you turned there were poinsettia’s, mini Christmas trees, and a giant King Kong holding a mistletoe! There a lot of options for foods and quick snacks.
Wintertime comes to Universal CityWalk through Sunday, January 1, 2017. There you’ll see a spectacular 40-foot tall Christmas tree that glistens with 200,000 LED icicles choreographed to the lights and sounds of the season in the “5 Towers” plaza. Then, of course, there’s Santa Claus who makes a nightly appearance and offers special photo opportunities at “5 Towers.”
Don’t forget to stop by the iconic, dancing water fountain at the heart of CityWalk. This modern and impressive fountain displays over 230 individual power jets that project streams of choreographed water into the air complemented by red and green LED lights and an array of holiday-themed music. It’s truly a sight to see.
Finally, a free concert performances at “5 Towers” and an eclectic ensemble of talented street performers will make this bucket list item a must-do. It’s why CityWalk is the ultimate L.A. holiday destination! We LOVED reading the wishes on the Wishing Tree. Don’t forget to stop and read them.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Hogwarts castle was straight out of the Harry Potter movies. It was MAGICAL! There was detail everywhere you looked. It was hard not to be amazed by all the creativity.
Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.
Hogsmeade village and shops offer so many great photo opportunities. And if you’ve been wand shopping, you’ve found the right place! There were walls covered in shelves full of unique wands. The Hogwarts Express was super cool too, so don’t forget to snap a photo there.
Throughout the park there were many spots to grab a yummy bite to eat. There are a lot of treats that you MUST try!
First on the list is the Butterbeer drink at “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” you can get it hot or cold. Equally as tasty and totally worth the wait. You also have the choice to purchase it with, or without the souvenir cup. But, why wouldn’t you want to add this to your collection?
p.s. There is no such thing as a diet during the holidays. Treat yourself!
A great place for adults to unwind, try some yummy food, and get a cold one is Springfield! It was such a fun place to hang out in. It felt like The Simpson’s cartoon had come alive. Whether you’ve seen the cartoon or not, Springfield is a must-see on your trip.
Visit Duff Beer Gardens and enjoy a DUFF Beer! You can also purchase a souvenir cup with your beer to add to your collection.
Don’t forget the nachos! Visit Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck, where you can get some delicious nachos, tacos and even a Duff beer all in one stop. NOM NOM NOM
