The new Very Eric Carle exhibit at Discovery Cube is full of color and imagination. It gives visitors a chance to climb into the pages of beloved Eric Carle’s books. The exhibit features Carle’s “Very” book series and its five characters. Very Eric Carle is meant for kids ages two through eight, but my ten year old also enjoy it.
Eric Carle’s illustrations are unique because of the hand painted tissue paper collage. They are colorful and distinct in his technique. This is something the Discovery Cube made a point to include in the exhibit. One section showcases Eric Carle’s paintings and characters to inspire little ones. They have a creative corner with plenty of paper and colors. Kids can draw their favorite character and display it for all visitors to see. The kiddos were really excited to have a place to display their artwork.
Each section is correlated to a book of Eric Carle. There is the maze is based on the The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Kids can walk through each day eating their way through the fruit. It was a great spot to take pics of the kiddos looking through the peep holes. At the Very Busy Spider then can use spider puppets to web their way out of the maze. An interactive floor display was perfect for my two year old. He loved to step on the ladybugs. An entire wall was covered in insects that lit up when pressed. It felt like you were in the forest listening to all the crickets and birds chirping. My ten year old enjoyed rearranging figures that projected onto a butterflies wings.
Our favorite section was the tall grass. Very Clumsy section is so fitting since it is difficult to get out. The kids were clumsily falling onto each other or tripping on the grass-like tubes. I wanted to fall backwards onto it, crowd surfing style. It was definitely a crowd favorite since the kids did not want to get out of the Very Clumsy section.
Very Eric Carle exhibit is full of color and life. The kids recognize the books and it felt like they were inside of them. Eric Carle’s illustrations are very unique and this comes across at the Discovery Cube. It is a great place to re-read those memorable books like Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar and then recreate it.
