Knott’s Berry Farm has been taken over by the “boysenberry”. This small berry full of color and flavor can be traced back to Walter Knott himself. Mr. Knott created the boysenberry by crossing a red raspberry, blackberry, and loganberry. The boysenberry is what put Mr. and Mrs. Knott on the map. This is why Knott’s Berry Farm honors that little berry with its own festival, Knott’s Boysenberry Festival.
Let’s begin with the most delicious part of Boysenberry Festival, the food. Pretty much boysenberry everything, from savory, tart to sweet items. A great way to try a variety is with the Tasting Card. This card offers 6 fixed boysenberry flavored foods for $25. This year it offers pizza, meatballs, Buffalo Wings, ravioli, panna cotta and fry bread. The pizza has been a major hit for visitors. It offers a unique blend of sweet plus savory with an added crunch of bacon. We could of had a bucket full of the Boysenberry Buffalo Wings. They were tart, sweet and messily delicious. The Boysenberry Panna Cotta was not too sweet and creamy, just what you would expect. The Tasting Card is easy to use, just take to listed vendor and they will punch the card for each offering. It is definitely worth your money since each serving is $5-8 if purchased separately.
An added bonus for adults is the Wine and Craft Beer Tasting. You can purchase a Wine Tasting Card for $25 which includes 6 tastings plus a cheese and fruit platter. Knott’s Boysenberry Festival offers a great variety of wines to choose from and all in one room. It was a great place to beat the sun and get a break from the lines. One of our favorites was the Boysenberry Wine. It was tart and a bit sweet. I loved the cheese platter which had a spot to hold your wine. If you are a season pass holder this would be a great place to come on a date night or girls night out.
Boysenberry Festival is a great time to visit since there is plenty to see and do. Snoopy’s Boysenberry Jamboree stage features musical performances through out the day. I was lucky enough to catch the All-Female Latin Dancers. They had ballet folkrorico, salsa and banda dancers. It was hard not to start dancing along with them. They also offer two Peanuts Characters musical shows at 4:30 & 6:00. The peanuts characters are always ready for photos in Camp Snoopy. In Calico Park they had line dancing lessons and kids Boysenberry Eating Contest. At night DJ Cruz entertains all at Fiesta Plaza Stage with cumbias, salsa, spanish rock, and more.
If at the end of your day you want to take some boysenberry treats home no worries. The Berry Market has all the boysenberry goodies to last you till next year. In case that is not enough for you then, you can purchase a boysenberry plant. These can be found in the entrance of Ghost Town and are a great souvenir. The boysenberry craze does not have to stop at food items. There are mugs, shot glasses, beauty products and T-Shirts. The “I Love Boysenberries” shirt is super cute with Snoopy’s belly full of berries.
Knott’s Boysenberry Festival is a hit year after year and for a good reason. The food is delicious and it keeps getting better. There is a greater variety of musical performances for the entire family. The park is proud of its most famous berry and it shows. Everywhere you turn there are beautiful Boysenberry floral displays, great for photo-ops. This is an event you do not want to miss and perfect for Spring Break. Boysenberry Festival is here from April 1-23. So get your Boysenberry Festival Map, Tasting Card and Happy Eating!!
